YSUBEB boss hails Yobe Government for supporting global champions
Story from Kasim Isa Muhammad
The Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board (YSUBEB), Mallam Isa Shettima, has lauded the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni for its commitment to education, describing the recent global triumph of three Yobe schoolgirls as a “clear evidence” to the government’s sustained investment in human capital development.
Shettima’s commendation follows the outstanding performance of seventeen-year-old Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu, fifteen-year-old Rukayya Muhammad Fema, and Hadiza Kashim Kalli at the 2025 TeenEagle Global finals in London, United Kingdom. The competition, which took place at the University of Surrey from July 27 to August 3, featured over 900 students from 46 countries.
Nafisa clinched the coveted title of Overall Best in English Language Skills, Rukayya emerged as Overall Best in Debate, while Hadiza earned the Outstanding Talent Award (Gold Medal). All three are students of the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) in Mamudo, Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State, a school that has benefited from the governor’s scholarship initiative.

Shettima noted that these feats were not accidental but the result of deliberate policy direction, substantial investment, and the creation of an enabling learning environment. He recalled that in 2024, Governor Buni approved a scholarship package worth over ₦2.2 billion for 890 students in NTIC, covering full tuition and other academic needs from Junior Secondary School 1 to Senior Secondary School 3.
“This victory on the global stage is proof that when a government prioritises education, nurtures talent, and provides the right tools, our children can compete with and outperform their peers anywhere in the world,” Dr. Shettima said. “The Buni administration’s investment in quality education is yielding dividends that will continue to put Yobe State on the map for positive reasons.”
Neptune Prime gathered that governor Buni has already approved a grand reception in honour of the students upon their return to Yobe State. According to the Director General of Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Muhammad, the governor described their achievements as a great honour to the state and the nation, affirming that such accomplishments justify the government’s continued investments in education.

Meanwhile, Shettima concluded by urging parents to continue supporting their children’s education and commended the teachers, parents, and school management for their roles in shaping the champions. “This is the kind of news we want the world to hear about Yobe – a story of resilience, excellence, and the boundless potential of our young people when given the opportunity to shine,” he said.
