YSU SUG strengthens ties with university management in courtesy visit

On Friday 5th September, 2025, the President of the Student Union Government (SUG), Yunus Abdullahi Barde, led members of the SUG Executive Council on a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bukar Jamri, at the Vice Chancellor’s office. The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Sani Isah, was also present at the meeting.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the student body and the university management, as well as presenting key issues affecting students on campus.
In his remarks, the SUG President raised several concerns on behalf of the student body.

The major issues discussed included:

Student Welfare: The SUG emphasized the need for improved attention to students’ health, mental well-being, and access to support services.
Hostel Sanitation: The team reported the poor sanitary conditions in some hostels and called for more regular and efficient cleaning.
Lighting in Reading Areas: Inadequate lighting in reading areas, especially during night study hours, was highlighted as a serious concern affecting academic productivity.
Transport System: The student leaders called for improvements in the campus transportation system to ease movement and reduce congestion.
Other Issues: Additional concerns such as campus security, learning infrastructure, and access to essential student services were also raised.

The Vice Chancellor, in his response, appreciated the SUG leadership for their proactive engagement and reassured them of the administration’s full support.

He promised prompt attention to the issues raised and assured the team that the university management would take emergency steps to address the most pressing needs.

The Dean of Student Affairs also commended the SUG for their efforts in representing the student body and reiterated the Deanery’s commitment to working closely with both the SUG and university management to ensure student satisfaction.

The SUG used the opportunity to brief the Vice Chancellor and the Dean on their recent achievements, ongoing projects, and upcoming activities before the end of their tenure. They also assured the university leadership of a peaceful and well-organized transition ahead of the forthcoming SUG elections.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both the university management and the student leaders reaffirming their commitment to dialogue, collaboration, and continuous improvement in student life on campus.
