YSU SUG hosts grand finale of intellectual competition

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Yobe State University has concluded the grand finale of its Second Annual Intellectual Competition, featuring debate, impromptu speeches and talent showcases. The event drew a large audience of staff, students and invited guests.
Top dignitaries in attendance included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of YSU, officials from the Yobe State Scholarship Board, Emergency Management Agency, Ministry of Education, as well as the Directors of Arts and Culture and Science and Technical Board.
Their presence added prestige to the programme, underscoring the university’s commitment to academic and cultural growth.

In the impromptu speech category, Habiba Iyam of Islamic Studies clinched first place, while Sewuese Dorathy and Fatima Zara Muhammad of MBBS took second and third respectively.
In debate, Maryam Ibrahim Isyaku of Law emerged overall winner, followed by Abdulkadir Adamu Sa’idu of History and Maidugu Abdullahi of Business Administration.
First-place winners received full scholarships, medals and certificates, with Dr. Kagu Abubakar pledging ₦50,000 cash to each. The Director of Arts and Culture also promised appointments, while other dignitaries made cash donations to participants.

SUG President Comr. Yunusa Abdullahi Barde thanked the university management, dignitaries and students for their support, noting that the competition provides “a platform for empowering students, building confidence and inspiring future leaders.”
