YSU English students showcase hidden talents in award ceremony

On Saturday, September 6, the 300-level students of the Department of English, under the leadership of their class representative, Hamisu Abdul Aziz, organized a talent exhibition and award presentation.
The Department of English has long been a platform where minds are nurtured with profitable and marketable skills demanded globally. Recognizing that many students are endowed with talents but often lack opportunities to showcase them, the event aimed to provide such a platform, inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.

The program featured poetry, spoken word performances, award presentations, an educative game (Pick and Obey), and a dance competition.
Award Categories Included:
Best Poet
Best Performing Student
Most Calm Student
Best Dresser (to promote cleanliness and tidy appearance)
Most Intellectual
Best Class Representative of the year.

The event was graced by student leaders, including:
The President of the National Association of Students of Literacy Studies and Linguistics (NASEL), Abdul Rahman M Abubakar
The Vice President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), YSU Chapter
The Secretary of the National Union of Yobe State Students (NUYOSS), YSU Chapter, and Other student representatives.
The ceremony concluded with smiles and applause from the audience. In her remarks, the SUG Vice President , Zainab Abdulmumin described the event as “a very good initiative that will go a long way in motivating, inspiring, and strengthening students’ confidence. It is not just an event, but an inspirational zone—challenging not only the students but the department to employ unique strategies in preparing students for the global marketplace after graduation.”
