Story from Ibraheem El-Tafseer

The Yobe State Government has reiterated its dedication to protecting lives and property in the face of seasonal flooding and climate change, emphasizing a proactive approach to emergency response and disaster preparedness.

This was disclosed during a press briefing held on Monday under the theme: “Emergency Response and Building Community Resilience: Yobe State Government’s Update on the Flood Disaster Response and Preparedness Plan.”

The event served as a platform to update the public on the recent flood incidents in the state and highlight ongoing efforts to mitigate their impact.

Speaking at the briefing, Dr. Mohammed Goje, the Executive Secretary Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) outlined key interventions carried out in 2025, particularly in Potiskum and Nangere Local Government Areas, which were severely affected by flooding.

According to him, the government responded swiftly by deploying relief materials, providing medical support, and implementing infrastructure measures aimed at reducing the risk of future disasters.

“These actions send a clear message under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, Yobe State remains proactive, people centered, and committed to safeguarding its citizens, regardless of the scale of the emergency,” Goje said.
