The Yobe State Government has urged journalists to adapt to the rapidly evolving media landscape by mastering emerging tools such as data analysis, risk communication, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, made the call while declaring open a capacity-building workshop for members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The training, themed “Democratic Governance and Contemporary Issues in Yobe,” aims to equip journalists with contemporary skills to thrive in the rapidly changing digital world.

Bego revealed that any journalist who sticks to the practices of 20 or 30 years ago will struggle to meet expectations.

He stressed that the training is crucial to upgrade professional skills and remain relevant in an AI-transformed sector.

Bego highlighted some key achievements of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration, including the construction of new mega schools, teacher recruitment, and scholarships for over 40,000 students and the construction of a 370-bed hospital, free dialysis, and the recruitment of over 2,000 medical personnel.

Others are the distribution of vehicles, tricycles, and tools to support youth and women entrepreneurs.

He said the administration also renovated and upgraded the Yobe Broadcasting Corporation (YBC), with plans for a new state television station.
