Yobe gov’t approves ₦2.8 billion for construction of modern markets, others

The Yobe State Executive Council has approved the sum of ₦2,787,625,946.89 for the construction of Machina Modern Market, while ₦3,015,000,625.00 was approved as a variation for Geidam Modern Market.

The State Commissioner, Ministry for Home Affairs Information and Culture, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, made this known while briefing journalists shortly after the Exco meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting was presided over by the state deputy governor, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana, who commended Governor Mai Mala Buni’s strides in revitalising the agricultural sector, which sustains 85 per cent of Yobe’s population.

The Deputy Governor praised the state Executive Council members for their synergy and teamwork, urging them to sustain the momentum for the state’s progress.

Bego further revealed that the council ratified several approvals, including that of the sum of ₦1,767,937,912.24 for the construction of office complexes to accommodate five agencies, namely the Bureau for Public Procurement, Fiscal Responsibility Board, Ease of Doing Business, Agency for Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion, and the Bureau of Statistics.

Similarly, according to him, the sum of ₦962,654,713.00 was approved for the construction of an office building for the Yobe Investment Company Ltd.

“The State Executive Council has also ratified an approval of the sum of ₦ 6,131,206,053.23 for the establishment of a Central Motor Park in Damaturu, the state capital.

“In a similar vein, the sum of ₦248,691, 683.95 was ratified for the first phase of the remodelling and upgrading of the Yobe Line Terminus, Damaturu.

“Also, the council has approved the sum of ₦ 3,799,000,000.00 for the procurement of agricultural inputs for dry season farming; part of the effort of His Excellency the governor to boost agricultural production and food security in the state.

The information commissioner stated that in healthcare, the sum of ₦1,434,531,942.10 was ratified by the council for construction works in some health facilities and health training institutions across the state, among others.

He explained that Governor Buni’s administration continues to prioritise healthcare and said it is why over the years, Yobe State was recognised and given awards, including cash awards, for specific measures that the administration has taken to improve healthcare delivery.
