Yobe approves over ₦47 billion for infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare

The Yobe State Executive Council has approved a sweeping package of developmental projects totaling over ₦47 billion, signaling a bold move by the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni to accelerate infrastructure development, boost food security, improve healthcare, and create jobs across the state.

The Council met today at the Government House, Damaturu under the chairmanship of His Excellency, the Deputy Governor, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, who represented Governor Buni. During the session, several memoranda were reviewed and approved for execution across critical sectors.

Top among the approvals is the sum of ₦1.76 billion for the construction of office complexes to accommodate five key agencies, including the Bureau for Public Procurement, Fiscal Responsibility Board, and others. In a related development, ₦962.6 million was approved for the office building of the Yobe Investment Company Ltd.

The Council also gave the green light for significant investments in the state’s commercial infrastructure. These include ₦2.78 billion for the construction of Machina Modern Market, ₦3.01 billion for the variation of Geidam Modern Market, and ₦3.98 billion for the completion of the Potiskum Modern Market. Additionally, a new Central Motor Park in Damaturu will be established at a cost of ₦6.13 billion, while ₦248.6 million was approved for remodeling the Yobe Line Terminus.

In the agricultural sector, which remains a cornerstone of the administration’s development agenda, Council ratified over ₦10.9 billion for the procurement of inputs and equipment. These include ₦3.79 billion for dry season farming inputs, ₦1.38 billion and ₦480 million for the procurement of 1,902 solar-powered water pumps, and ₦5.31 billion for NPK fertilizer.

Also approved is ₦396.9 million for the reconstruction of a collapsed water control gate in Alagarno Village of Bade Local Government Area.

In health, the Council ratified ₦1.43 billion for construction works in health facilities and training institutions, and ₦1.22 billion for the procurement of medical and laboratory equipment for secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities.

Addressing the state’s transportation network, the Council approved multiple road construction projects including: ₦1.24 billion for the 5KM Daya-Fadawa road, ₦4.38 billion for the 18.5KM, Mashio-Ngelzarma road, ₦671.6 million for the 2.5KM Nahuta-Ngojin road, and ₦5.36 billion for the Damaturu-Gambir road.

To enhance youth empowerment and job creation, the Ministry of Wealth Creation secured Council approval for ₦442.2 million for 100 modern barbershop setups and ₦233.6 million for 50 hair dressing salon setups across the state.

Further strengthening healthcare delivery, Council ratified the absorption of 422 health workers, including midwives and community health workers previously engaged under the Maternal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII), targeting five local government areas.

Commissioner of Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, Hon. Abdullahi Bego, who briefed the press, emphasised the Buni administration’s continued commitment to inclusive development, citing national recognition and awards received for improvements in the healthcare sector as a testament to the government’s resolve.

The Council reiterated that these approvals are part of strategic interventions aimed at creating a better life for all Yobeans.
