Vigilante beats father of 2 to death over girlfriend
A father of two, Confidence Ikechi, was brutally beaten to death by members of the Organized Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), a local vigilante group, in Elele community, Rivers State. The incident occurred after Ikechi got into a quarrel with the girlfriend of one of the vigilante members.
Chiwenkpe Ikechi, elder brother to the deceased, told newsmen on Sunday that the deceased had close work on Friday around 11pm and when he returned to his compound, he had altercation with a lady, one of his co-tenant who abused him for being drunk.
He said in the mist of the quarrel, the lady slapped and poured saliva on the deceased and when he retaliated and slapped her back, the lady and her son started hitting him with sticks.

He said when the situation got out of hand, the lady rushed out and called her boyfriend, one Godspower, who is a vigilante operative, who later drove into the compound with his colleague, ‘J Boy’ and started hitting the deceased with machete and sticks till he bled and died.
He said after the vigilante operatives killed his brother, they dropped message to him that he cannot do them anything.
He said he had to report the matter to the police division in the area, when the killer vigilante operative, the girl friend and her son have been arrested and the matter transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for further investigation.

Chiwenkpe Ikechi, Elder brother to the deceased said:
“My brother closed from work and came back by 11pm. He came to where I work and drink, then went back to his compound when a lady in the compound started embarrassing him, that he is a drunkard, that he is smelling.
“She now pour him (Confidence) saliva and also slap him. Then when Confidence retaliated and slapped her back, she and her son attacked him with sticks.
“As if that was not enough, the lady ran out and called her boyfriend who is an OSPAC man, two of them came and killed my brother (Confidence). They drove into the compound, used stick and machete to hit him on his chest, stomach and back, he started bleeding until he died.
“The next morning, I now rushed to the police station to report the matter, when I come back from the police station, the OSPAC person have also come back to confirm if the young boy is actually dead and he also dropped a message that Confidence’s brothers and the community cannot do nothing to them.

“The police arrived the scene after our report and arrested the OSPAC personnel, the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt, we need justice for our murdered brother, they cannot kill the young man and go free,” he said.
Police spokesman in Rivers State, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the killing to Daily Trust, said the suspects had been arrested and transferred to State Criminal Investigative and Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.
