University lecturer dies during sex romp with 200-level student in Kogi

A senior lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, has reportedly died during a sexual encounter with a 22-year-old undergraduate student in a hotel room.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and was formally reported to the Anyigba Division of the Nigeria Police Force the following day. According to sources familiar with the case, the late lecturer was known for his stern academic posture but also had a reputation for allegedly coercing female students into exchanging sexual favors for grades.

The student involved, identified as Gloria Samuel, a 200-level student in the Department of Social Studies Education, has since been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lokoja for further interrogation and possible prosecution.

According to preliminary reports, Dr. Ibikunle, who was married with children, checked into a hotel in Anyigba with the student. He reportedly consumed multiple energy drinks before the encounter, allegedly to enhance his sexual performance. However, during the course of the activity, the lecturer suddenly collapsed.

The hotel manager, identified as Moses Friday, told police that the student had rushed to the reception in a panic, claiming that Dr. Ibikunle had collapsed after intercourse. The manager immediately alerted officers at the Anyigba Police Division, who responded swiftly by conveying the lecturer to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the doctor on duty confirmed him dead on arrival.

Speaking to journalists, the spokesperson of the Kogi State Police Command, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the incident, describing it as a tragic and unfortunate event.

“In a report filed on July 16, the hotel manager informed the police that one of their guests, a university lecturer, had been involved in a medical emergency involving a female student,” SP Aya stated. “Upon arrival at the scene, officers took the man to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The student has been moved to the SCID for further investigation.”

An autopsy was reportedly conducted to determine the precise cause of death, but SP Aya noted that he had not yet been briefed on the findings from the SCID.
