UK-based Nigerian mother cries for help after Social Services take kids away, husband arrested
A Nigerian woman living in the United Kingdom has issued a desperate plea for intervention after her family was torn apart by social services and legal actions. The mother, whose identity remains undisclosed, shared her heartbreaking ordeal that began late last year and has left her in turmoil.
Speaking about the series of events, she said, “On the 3rd of December 2024, my daughter, who I’ve always had concerns about and reported to her school on multiple occasions, made a disclosure to her school about my husband. That same day, my husband was arrested.”
She further explained that, just days later, her daughter withdrew the allegations. “On the 8th of December, my daughter retracted her statement,” she noted. However, the retraction did not halt the involvement of UK social services.
“On the 12th of December, I was handed a letter by social services asking me to appear in court at 1 pm that day, with the court session scheduled for 2 pm. By the end of that session, my children were taken away from me,” she recounted, her voice laden with pain.
The court’s decision was a devastating blow. “I was heartbroken. They allowed me supervised visits, but even during those, I was accused by a student social worker of whispering to my daughter and intimidating her. On the 6th of January 2025, the police arrested me based on these claims and placed me on bail, prohibiting me from seeing my children.”

Adding to her struggles, the woman said authorities had seized her electronic devices, further isolating her. “Both my phones and laptop were confiscated. I feel trapped. Durham police and social workers have treated me unfairly, especially since I am the only one fighting to reunite my family. I can neither see my children nor communicate with my husband, who is also on bail.”
In her plea for assistance, the distressed mother appealed to Nigerian authorities, saying, “I need help. I have no connections at the Nigerian High Commission or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who can assist me. Please, come to my rescue.”
She expressed frustration with the school’s lack of action despite her prior warnings. “I have documented concerns I raised about my daughter’s behaviour and exposure. Even the school questioned if it was the right environment for her, but nothing was done. Now, my family is paying the price,” she lamented.
The woman also pointed out that her plight is not unique. “I know many Nigerians in the UK are going through similar situations. Investigations should be thorough, but the way my case is being handled is deeply unfair,” she added.
This case has sparked discussions among Nigerians in the UK and beyond. Many sympathise with the woman’s plight and have called for greater diplomatic support for Nigerian citizens facing such situations.
While the full details of the allegations remain unclear, the mother’s appeal underscores the challenges faced by immigrant families navigating complex legal and social systems in foreign countries.
She concluded with a heartfelt plea: “All I want is to be reunited with my children and husband. This separation is tearing us apart. I hope someone will hear my cry and help me find justice.”
