Renowned diplomat and lawyer, Barrister Kashim Musa Tumsah, MFR, has congratulated Professor Halima Idrisa Gambo of the University of Maiduguri for emerging as Nigeria’s first female Professor of Veterinary Pathology.

In a congratulatory message posted on his personal Facebook page, Tumsah described the feat as a landmark achievement for her, the University of Maiduguri, Yobe State, where she hails from, and Nigeria as a whole.

He added that her success has broken gender prejudices and would inspire more females to excel in their chosen careers.

“On behalf of myself and the good people of Yobe State, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Professor Halima Idrisa Gambo on her historic and well-deserved promotion,” he said.

Tumsah noted that Professor Gambo’s journey reflects decades of resilience, hard work, and dedication to academic excellence.

“Her elevation to the rank of Professor underscores her tireless commitment to teaching, groundbreaking research, mentorship of younger scholars, and service to community development.

“She has held significant leadership roles, including with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), and the University of Maiduguri Business School.

“These positions highlight her influence and contributions to the advancement of veterinary medicine and education in Nigeria.

“Beyond her professional achievements, Prof. Gambo’s success carries a symbolic weight. She has broken gender barriers in a male-dominated field, serving as an inspiration for young women in Yobe State and across the country to pursue excellence without limits.”

According to him, the professor’s trailblazing rise is a source of pride not just for her family and community but for the entire North-East region, resonating as a beacon of hope for future generations of scholars and professionals.

Tumsah added that Professor Gambo’s promotion would “further strengthen Yobe State’s growing profile in producing distinguished academics and professionals who are contributing to national development.”

Neptune Prime reports that the University of Maiduguri announced the promotion of Dr Gambo to the rank of Professor, following approval by the University’s Governing Council.

Professor Gambo, who hails from Potiskum local government area of Yobe State, is the first female Professor of Veterinary Pathology in Nigeria, a groundbreaking milestone in both the nation’s academic and veterinary history.

Professor Gambo has devoted over 20 years to teaching, research, mentorship, and community service.

She began her academic career in 2004 as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Maiduguri and has steadily risen through the ranks to become a distinguished leader in her field.

Beyond the classroom and laboratory, she holds several key leadership positions:

National Vice President, Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN)

Chairperson, Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Borno State Chapter

Deputy Director, University of Maiduguri Business School (UMBS)
