Troops uncover filling stations supplying fuel to Boko Haram terrorists

Soldiers from Operation Hadin Kai operation in the North-East have dismantled a large-scale fuel smuggling ring in Maiduguri, Borno State, aimed at supplying Boko Haram terrorists operating around Gwoza and parts of Cameroon.

The operation led to the raid of Hadiza and Sadiq Filling Stations, where soldiers found hundreds of jerrycans being brazenly filled with fuel. Authorities described the act as a calculated and treasonous effort to aid enemies of the Nigerian state.

According to intelligence sources cited by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the military had been monitoring several unscrupulous fuel vendors suspected of aiding terrorist logistics.

These vendors often use modified vehicle tanks to transport large fuel volumes, which are then transferred into jerrycans and sent into insurgent-controlled territories.

However, this time, the perpetrators were caught red-handed. Several suspects were arrested during the sting operation and during interrogation admitted they were transporting fuel toward Pulka and parts of Cameroon—strongholds of the Boko Haram Ali Ngulde faction.

While they denied knowing the end recipients, they acknowledged that individuals from various locations came to collect the fuel.

Security officials condemned the complicity of licenced fuel stations in terrorism, calling their actions economic sabotage that contributes directly to the loss of lives and destruction of infrastructure.

“These people aren’t businessmen; they’re enemies of the state,” a military source said.

The Army has pledged to ramp up surveillance on fuel supply chains and ensure that all collaborators are held accountable.
