Troops rescue 7 kidnapped victims

Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully rescued seven people who were kidnapped along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road in Taraba State’s Wukari Local Government Area.

The victims were abducted on August 3 by suspected kidnappers. During the rescue operation, the troops engaged the kidnappers, who, according to Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the spokesperson for the 6 Brigade, were “overwhelmed by superior firepower and sustained pressure” and fled, leaving the victims behind.

Four victims were found unharmed in Chinkai Forest on August 5. The remaining three female victims were rescued the following day, August 6, in the Owedi Community of the same local government area.

Lieutenant Muhammad stated that the safe recovery of all seven victims shows the Nigerian Army’s “commitment and professionalism in combating kidnapping and ensuring the security of Taraba State residents.”

The Commander of 6 Brigade NA/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, praised the troops for their dedication, calling the operation a “major success in the fight against criminality.”

He also reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to “sustain aggressive operations to curb kidnapping and safeguard lives and property across the state.”
