Troops of Operation Fasan Yamma (OPFY) have successfully neutralized several terrorists and rescued nine kidnap victims in coordinated operations across Sokoto and Zamfara states.
The troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, two magazines with 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, three phones, and other items.
According to a statement from Captain David Adewusi, the Media Information Officer for OPFY, the rescue mission took place on August 31, 2025, in the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation was launched based on reliable intelligence about the movement of terrorists along the Isa–Shinkafi–Kaura Namoda Road, which connects Zamfara and Sokoto States.

When the troops set up an ambush, the terrorists reportedly attempted to use their captives as human shields. “Consequently, the troops responded methodically and decisively, resulting in the neutralisation of a handful of terrorists while many others fled with gunshot wounds,” the statement said.
During the operation, nine kidnapped victims, three adult females and six children, were rescued. They had been abducted from Garin Bature village in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The victims were immediately taken to the General Hospital in Shinkafi for medical treatment.
Afterward, the victims were handed over to officials of the Shinkafi LGA, who were notified of the rescue operation. The officials “immediately responded to the needs of the victims while promising to ensure that the victims would be reunited with their families soon.”

The public is urged to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
