Tobi Amusan clinches fifth 100m hurdles title at 2025 AFN National trials

World record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, won her fifth national title at the 2025 Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) National Trials held at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos.

Tobi Amusan, 28, dominated the race from the start, finishing with a time of 12.57 seconds to maintain her lead in the 2025 AFN National trials.

The victory adds to Amusan’s preparations for the World Athletics Championships scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan, in September later this year.

In the men’s 400m final, Gafar Badmus emerged champion, clocking 45.71 seconds to finish ahead of Ezekiel Asuquo, who came second with a time of 46.29 seconds. David Akhalu finished the race in third place, running a time of 46.91 seconds.

The women’s 400m saw an unexpected turn as multiple-time national champion Patience Okon-George was disqualified in the final. In her absence, African U-20 champion Favour Onyah clinched first place with a time of 52.69 seconds. Opeyemi Deborah Oke and Anita Enaruna followed in second and third place, respectively.

In the women’s 100m final, African U-20 champion Chioma Nweke won her first national title with a time of 11.27 seconds, ahead of defending champion Olayinka Olajide, who ran 11.39 seconds. Iyanuoluwa Bada finished third with 11.45 seconds.
