Tinubu returns early from Europe, arrives Abuja on Tuesday

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived back in Abuja on Tuesday evening after curtailing a 10-day leave initially scheduled for Paris and London.

The Airbus A330 carrying the president landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 6:50 p.m. local time.

Tinubu, who departed Nigeria on 4 September, had been expected to remain in Europe until later this week.

No official explanation was given for the decision to return earlier than planned.

The president’s return coincides with the expiry of the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State, Nigeria’s oil-rich region, which lapses on Thursday.

Since January 2025, the 73-year-old leader has embarked on 15 foreign trips, frequently combining official engagements with periods of rest.

His last known holiday was in April, when he spent around 14 working days in Paris and London.
