Tinubu orders military overhaul after deadly Borno attack

President Bola Tinubu has ordered a major review of military operations nationwide following a recent terrorist attack in Borno State that resulted in dozens of deaths.
The President has directed the Armed Forces to reassess current security strategies and acquire advanced military hardware, including drones and surveillance technology, to intensify the fight against insurgent groups.
Vice President Kashim Shettima delivered the President’s directive while offering condolences to the people of Borno after the Friday night assault in Darajamal, Bama Local Government Area. The attack, carried out by Boko Haram insurgents, claimed the lives of both civilians and soldiers.

In a statement released by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President described the incident as a deep loss for the state and the nation. He extended his sympathies to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who had visited the affected community to console grieving families.
“The deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families,” Shettima stated. He added that the President had approved the acquisition of more drones to enhance military surveillance.
Shettima reaffirmed the government’s trust in the Armed Forces’ ability to overcome the security challenges in the region, noting that discussions were underway regarding the possible creation of state police.

He explained that these units would have a better understanding of local terrain and culture, leading to more effective grassroots security operations.
The Vice President assured that the Federal Government would continue to support Borno State and the affected communities, offering prayers for the victims’ families and committing to sustained efforts to restore peace and stability.
