Tinubu embarks on 2-nation tour to Japan, Brazil, focusing on investment, bilateral partnerships

President Bola Tinubu is set to travel to Japan and Brazil for a working visit aimed at strengthening international partnerships, attracting investment, and fostering innovation-led growth.

The trip, which begins on Thursday, August 14, will include a stopover in Dubai before the President heads to Yokohama, Japan.

From August 20 to 22, President Tinubu will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9).

The conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will focus on Africa’s economic transformation, improving the business climate, and strengthening institutions through private sector investment and innovation. It will also address human security, peace, stability, and resilience in African societies.

During his time in Japan, Tinubu will attend plenary sessions, hold bilateral talks with Japanese leaders, and meet with executives of Japanese companies already investing in Nigeria. The TICAD platform, initiated in 1993 by the Japanese government, is a high-level policy dialogue co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank.

Following the conference, President Tinubu will travel to Brasilia, Brazil, for a two-day state visit from August 24 to 25, at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

In Brazil, he will hold a bilateral meeting with President Lula da Silva, participate in a Nigeria–Brazil business forum to attract new investment, and oversee the signing of cooperation agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the two nations.

President Tinubu’s delegation will include key ministers and senior government officials.

A source from the Presidential Villa, who spoke to News Point Nigeria on the condition of anonymity, stated that the two-nation trip highlights Tinubu’s push to “expand Nigeria’s global economic footprint, attract foreign investment, and forge stronger alliances with countries that can contribute to the nation’s long-term development goals.”

The source also added that with Japan’s advanced technology sector and Brazil’s growing economic ties with Africa, the visits are expected to “yield significant agreements in trade, industry, and infrastructure development.”
