TikToker jailed for one year over public bathing in women’s underwear
A popular TikToker, Umar Hashim has been sentenced to one year in prison by magistrate court in Kano State for bathing on a public road while wearing women’s underwear.
The court, located in Gyadi Gyadi and presided over by Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan, delivered its verdict in a case brought forward by the Kano State Censorship Board.

Hashim was convicted of public misconduct after a video of his comedy skit—depicting him engaging in the act—went viral and attracted public backlash for breaching standards of public decency.
The court ruled that his one-year prison sentence could be replaced with a fine of ₦80,000. Additionally, he was ordered to pay ₦20,000 to the Censorship Board to cover the costs of the investigation and prosecution.

Hashim had been arrested in June 2025 shortly after the controversial video was released online.
The court stressed that the judgment was intended to reinforce morality laws and deter acts considered inappropriate in public spaces.
