Three-storey building collapses in Abuja, victim rescued after 10 hours

A three-storey building collapsed on Saturday evening in the Lifecamp area of Abuja, prompting an emergency response from multiple agencies.

The incident, which occurred around 6:15 p.m. on August 2, led to a coordinated rescue effort involving the FCT Police Command, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), officials from the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s Development Control Department, Zeberced Construction Company, and Julius Berger Construction Company.

Responding swiftly to a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer of the Lifecamp Division mobilized teams to the scene. The area was immediately cordoned off as rescue operations got underway. After nearly ten hours of intense effort, 27-year-old Aliyu Salisu, a citizen of Niger Republic, was pulled out alive from the rubble around 4 a.m. on Sunday, August 3.

According to FCT Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, Salisu was the only individual trapped in the debris and was immediately taken to Cedar Crest Hospital in Gudu, where he is said to be responding well to treatment.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, who was present at the scene, praised the professionalism and swift action of all emergency responders, including community members who supported the operation.

Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and to promptly report emergencies or suspicious activity to the FCT Police Command’s Control Room via 0803 200 3913 or 0806 158 1938.
