The Rise of a Cameroonian Journalist: Aïssatou Adamou’s journey from print to digital, by Salim Sani

Aïssatou Adamou is a Cameroonian journalist with more than 11 years of professional experience in journalism and communication.

She began her academic journey in Nigeria, where she earned her NECO certificate and later obtained a Diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri.

She then returned to Cameroon to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.

Her career path includes working with MTN Cameroon at the Ngaoundere agency in 2015 and serving as a brand ambassador for MTN at the Total Energy SCDP station in Ngaoundere in 2016.

Between 2017 and 2020, she joined the Cameroon Press and Publishing Company, Sopecam, where she spent three years at the Garoua regional office in the North.

Alongside these roles, she broadened her expertise through communication internships in Nigeria, Cameroon, and France.

In December 2019, Adamou successfully passed the competitive examination to join the Cameroonian civil service as a journalist, an important milestone in her career.

By February 2020, she had assumed her role and was later assigned to the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training, where she currently serves as Assistant Research Officer in the communication unit.

Connecting, learning, and innovating

Beyond her institutional work, Adamou is also active in digital media as the creator and host of AtayaWebTv, her own online television platform hosted on Facebook.

Single and without children, she embodies a new generation of journalists who seamlessly blend traditional media practices with the fast-evolving digital landscape.
