Super Eagles fall to Senegal in CHAN opener
The Home-Based Super Eagles’ return to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) did not get off to a winning start, as they were defeated 1-0 by defending champions Senegal on Tuesday night.
The CHAN, a tournament exclusively for players who play in their country’s domestic leagues, saw Nigeria’s team, led by coach Eric Chelle, lose their Group D match in Tanzania.
A defensive error by the Super Eagles B team with 15 minutes left on the clock was capitalized on by Senegal. Gomis’ 75th-minute goal was the only one of the game and was enough to secure all three points for Senegal.

With this loss, Nigeria sits at the bottom of Group D, as Congo and Sudan played to a 1-1 draw earlier.
The Super Eagles, who missed the previous two editions of the tournament, will aim to rebound in their next group match against Sudan, scheduled for next Tuesday.
