State governor shakes up cabinet in major reshuffle
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has carried out a significant cabinet shake-up, dismissing several commissioners and special advisers.
Announced in a statement on Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, the decision effectively dissolves a part of the State Executive Council.
The governor’s directive requires all affected officials to immediately hand over official documents and state property to the permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.
Governor Oyebanji extended his appreciation to the departing officials for their service to Ekiti State and wished them success in their future endeavors.

This reshuffle, however, does not affect several key positions. The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice will retain their post, along with the commissioners for Health and Human Services, Agriculture and Food Security, Education, Works, and Trade, Investment, Industry and Cooperatives.
Also unaffected are the Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion and the Special Adviser on Lands, Survey and e-GIS.
Additionally, all Directors General who are members of the State Executive Council, including those for the Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD), SDGs and Project Monitoring, and the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), will remain in their roles.
While no official reason was given for the changes, political analysts believe the move is likely part of the governor’s plan to boost his administration’s efficiency as he approaches the halfway point of his term.

While Governor Oyebanji’s reshuffle grabbed headlines, it wasn’t the only recent cabinet change.
In a similar move, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia officially dissolved his entire State Executive Council.
The decision was announced at the conclusion of the council’s 12th meeting of the year, with Governor Alia informing the members that their terms had come to an end.
The news was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday, 30 July, 2025 by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, in Makurdi.
Following the directive, Governor Alia instructed all commissioners to hand over their responsibilities to the permanent secretaries within their respective ministries without delay.
