Soldier kills man in Warri, Army cites self-defence

A 36-year-old man, Oghenekaro Ugochukwu Bonny, was stabbed to death by a soldier in Warri, Delta State, during what his family described as a routine visit gone wrong.

Witnesses said the incident occurred at the Delta Marine Logistics and Technical Estate Gate after a brief confrontation, during which the soldier allegedly stabbed Ugochukwu in the stomach.

He was rushed to a nearby Navy hospital but was confirmed dead.

The Nigerian Army’s 63 Brigade, Asaba, confirmed the incident, stating that the soldier acted in self-defence after being attacked.

However, the victim’s family dismissed the Army’s account, accusing it of trying to “criminalize the dead” and demanding justice.

The killing has sparked public outrage in Warri, with residents calling for accountability from the military.
