Sisters, couple arrested for staging kidnapping to extort father
Story by Susan Mbamah
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested four people, including two sisters, for allegedly faking a kidnapping in a plot to extort their elderly father for ₦5 million.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, released a statement today in Abuja detailing the arrests.
According to Adeh, the two daughters of the victim conspired with a couple to fake the abduction in the Jikwoyi area of Abuja. The scheme began on July 30, when the father reported his 16-year-old daughter missing after she failed to return from an exam she was supposed to have taken on July 18 at Government Secondary School, Karu. He later received a call from unknown individuals demanding a ransom for her release.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jikwoyi Division immediately launched a discreet investigation,” Adeh said.
“Through coordinated intelligence gathering and digital tracking, the phone number used to contact the complainant was traced to a residence in Jikwoyi Phase II.”
When operatives arrived at the location, they found the missing daughter with two of the suspects, “all seen eating and conversing freely, indicating no signs of distress.” Further investigation led to the arrest of the elder sister of the alleged victim and her boyfriend.
It was revealed that the elder sister and her boyfriend, who is legally married to another woman, masterminded the kidnapping plot to defraud their father. The younger sister was a willing participant, and “willingly stayed with the suspects throughout the period of her alleged abduction.” The elder sister remained at home and feigned ignorance while watching her parents struggle to raise the ransom money.
