Saudi Arabia’s Prince Al-Waleed celebrates 36th birthday despite being in coma for two decades

Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, affectionately nicknamed the “Sleeping Prince,” has quietly marked his 36th birthday, continuing his long battle in a coma that began nearly 20 years ago after a devastating accident.

In 2005, while studying at a military academy, Prince Al-Waleed suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car crash. Since then, he has been receiving round-the-clock medical care at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, with machines supporting his vital functions.

The young royal comes from a distinguished lineage, being a great-grandson of King Abdulaziz, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia, and a grandson of Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz. Although not in the direct line of succession, Prince Al-Waleed is closely related to King Salman bin Abdulaziz, his great-uncle.

Throughout the years, his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, has never lost hope, steadfastly believing in the possibility of a miraculous recovery.

Despite the length of his condition, the family remains committed to his care, and occasional movements from the prince have inspired fresh waves of hope and prayer among Saudis and well-wishers across the region.

Prince Al-Waleed’s story remains a powerful symbol of endurance, faith, and the unbreakable bonds of family.
