Rainstorm destroys 6 houses, council secretariat gate in Plateau
A powerful rainstorm has caused significant destruction in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, damaging homes and a local government secretariat.
The storm, which hit on Wednesday, was particularly destructive in the Bukur community. The Chairman of the council, Silas Patrick Dung, confirmed the damage to reporters, stating that the storm was incredibly strong.
“The fact that the storm destroyed the Council Secretariat gate, which was built with 25mm rods, indicates that it was a very strong rainstorm,” Dung said.

During a visit to the affected areas with officials from the National Emergency Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Dung observed that some homes were completely destroyed, while many others had their roofs ripped off and fences damaged.
He described the event as a “natural disaster” caused by strong winds.
The chairman assured residents that the council is currently assessing the full extent of the damage and is committed to providing support to those affected.
He also noted that steps would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
