President Tinubu recalls NTA DG, ED News, drops new leadership
In a sudden reversal, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the recall of Salihu Abdullahi Dembos, the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News.
This decision nullifies a recent leadership shake-up at the state-owned broadcaster that took place just two weeks ago.
Dembos, originally appointed in October 2023, had briefly stepped down from his position following the earlier management changes. With this new directive, he is expected to resume his duties and continue his three-year tenure, which is set to end in 2026.
Similarly, Adewuyi, who was appointed as NTA’s Executive Director of News in 2024, has also been instructed to return to his post to serve out his tenure until 2027.

The President’s decision effectively cancels the earlier appointments of a new Director-General, Executive Director of News, Executive Director of Marketing, and Managing Director of NTA Enterprises.
Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the development, stating that the move “underscores the President’s commitment to ensuring stability and continuity at the nation’s foremost public broadcasting network.”
The presidency has reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of Dembos and Adewuyi, restoring clarity to the NTA’s management structure.
It is worth noting that on August 22, President Tinubu had appointed Rotimi Pedro to lead a newly reconstituted leadership team at the NTA.
