Police uncover remains of missing graduate buried near church, arrest cleric

The case of 28-year-old Ogubode Quadri Adedamola, who was reported missing on January 16 has taken a terrifying turn following discovery by the police.

The Lagos State University (LASU) graduate, who completed his studies in Political Science Education in 2024, was also the CEO of Horlar Edu Consultancy, a private business operating at the LASU campus at the time of his disappearance.

Adedamola, known to be a promising young entrepreneur, was last heard from by his girlfriend on the day he disappeared.

According to her, she spoke with him, and he mentioned he was standing in front of the CCC Ileri Oluwa Parish on the LASU 2 campus, promising to call back later.

However, when the girlfriend didn’t hear from him again, she reported him missing, leading police to commence an investigation.

Based on the girlfriend’s account, officers visited the church and the Shepherd of the church, Sup. Evang. Whepetoji Babaniyeh, denied any knowledge of Adedamola’s whereabouts, stating he had not seen him on that day.

The investigation took a significant turn when police accessed Adedamola’s bank statements. They discovered that a large sum of 1.5 million Naira was transferred from his account on the day he went missing.

The transfers included significant amounts sent to the Shepherd’s personal account, his daughter’s account, and others.

Initially, the Shepherd denied receiving the money, but when the police presented evidence, he changed his story, claiming the funds were intended for a church thanksgiving.

This admission led to his detention as authorities delved deeper into the case and later confirmed that Adedamola’s body was found buried near the church premises.

Disturbingly, it appears that the young man was buried under the supervision of Shepherd Babaniyeh. Police recovered a gun and an axe, which are now being examined for possible involvement in the crime.

The discovery has shocked the local community, raising questions about the Shepherd’s role in the death of Adedamola, a promising young man with a bright future. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

The church Shepherd, Evang. Whepetoji Babaniyeh has been remanded in police custody, with further investigations underway to uncover the full extent of the crime.
