Police intercept vehicle with crystal meth, other narcotics
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have seized a vehicle carrying crystal methamphetamine, also known as ‘ice’, and other illicit drugs.
The discovery was made during a routine stop-and-search operation at Ilara-Mokin in the Ifedore Local Council, led by ASP Amos Ayuba.
According to Police Commissioner Adebowale Lawal, the vehicle was unregistered and was using a fake number plate stolen from another car. Lawal emphasised that the bust highlights the effectiveness of checkpoints in preventing crime.
In response, the Commissioner has ordered a statewide crackdown on unmarked vehicles, cars with covered number plates, and the unauthorised use of dealer plates. He also issued a directive targeting motorcyclists using masks or face coverings.

“All suspects connected with the case are now in custody while investigations continue,” Lawal stated.
The police chief recently met with commercial motorcyclist representatives to inform them of the new measures. He warned that using motorcycles to cover criminal activities would be met with strict enforcement and shared his personal contact with their leaders to facilitate intelligence sharing.
Lawal noted that intelligence reports show criminals have been using unmarked vehicles and disguised motorcyclists to evade detection while infiltrating communities.
Reassuring the public of their safety, the Commissioner pledged that the command would operate with professionalism and accountability, aligning with the vision of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
