Police begin investigation into case of teenager chained for five years by father

The Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation into a disturbing case in Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government Area, where a young man identified as Chogbo (popularly called Agudo) was reportedly chained by his father for five years under the pretext that he had travelled abroad.
According to a statement issued on Sunday, August 24, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the victim has since been rescued and is currently receiving necessary medical care.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, directed operatives to immediately probe the matter to establish the facts and ensure the safety of the victim. He assured that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

Preliminary inquiries are already underway, with investigators working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shocking development.
In his remarks, CP Orutugu praised the youths of Igboukwu for their proactive role in exposing the incident, describing their intervention as “a clear example of community partnership in policing.”

The Command further assured residents that updates on the case will be communicated as the investigation progresses.
