Police arrest two suspected cattle rustlers in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men, Umar Usman, 24, and Auwal Mohammed, 22, for allegedly rustling ten cows in Maikwangi village, Ningi Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Spokesman, CSP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this to newsmen on Saturday in Bauchi.
“On August 14, 2025, at about 0930 hrs, intelligence at the Command’s disposal indicated a suspected gang of cattle rustlers around Maikwangi village, Ningi LGA, Bauchi State,” the statement read.
He said detectives from the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters, working with other security agencies and led by the Divisional Police Officer, immediately swung into action.

“They successfully arrested two suspects possessing ten cattle suspected to have been stolen,” Wakil added.
According to him, the suspects, Usman and Mohammed, both residents of Magana district in Sabo LGA, Kaduna State, confessed during interrogation that they had conspired about a month earlier to raid a Fulani settlement in Gwamnare bush, Maikwangi village, and rustled the recovered cattle.
“Members of the public, particularly the community of the Gwamnare bush area of Maikwangi village, Ningi LGA, Bauchi, and the entire public, are requested to further disseminate this information for the possible tracing of the rightful owners of these recovered stolen cattle,” the spokesperson stated.
He added that the investigation was ongoing, after which the suspects will be profiled and charged in court.
