Police arrest bandit collaborators in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested three suspected collaborators of bandits and recovered arms and ammunition in separate operations across the state.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Rufai, the arrests were made in intelligence-driven operations conducted by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department and operatives of Tureta Division.
“On September 22, 2025, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intercepted an ash-coloured Golf Wagon with tinted glass, driven by one Ahmed Illiyasu.
“He was reportedly transporting two passengers, identified as Hamza Sani and Safiyanu Kabiru, both from Gundumi village, an area described by the police as a bandit stronghold.

“The suspects allegedly bought six jerricans of petrol in Goronyo with the intention of supplying them to bandits operating in the eastern axis of the state.
The three were immediately arrested, while the exhibits were recovered as part of ongoing investigations into the supply chain sustaining criminal groups.”
The statement further said, “In a separate operation on September 24, 2025, police officers on patrol in Tureta intercepted a 30-year-old man, Shehu Sani, of Gwaddodi village in Rabah Local Government Area.
“He was found in possession of a fabricated automatic rifle and two rounds of live AK47 ammunition.
The suspect was transferred to the SCID for further investigation into the source of the weapon and its intended use”
Commending the officers for their vigilance, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, Ahmed Musa, reassured residents of the Command’s determination to protect lives and property.

He urged the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid the fight against banditry and other crimes.
The statement emphasised that the Command remains committed to robust intelligence-led policing, proactive patrols, and community engagement as part of efforts to sustain peace and security in Sokoto State.
