Police arrest 8 suspected burglars, recover stolen motorcycles in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested eight suspects linked to burglary and theft, including the stealing of three motorcycles in Damaturu, the state capital.
Police spokesperson, SP Abdulkarim Dungus, who disclosed this yesterday, said the arrests followed a two-day operation targeted at burglary, phone snatching, and other organised crimes across the state.
He explained that during the second half of 2025, the Command recorded several cases of house and shop break-ins, with items worth millions of naira carted away.
He said: “We received reports of shops and houses being burgled, carting away household and shop items, as well as three motorcycles in Damaturu, valued at about ₦1.5 million.”

According to him, four suspects were apprehended in Damaturu during a tactical manhunt: Abubakar Ahmad, 20; Babagana Goni, 25; Abubakar Ibrahim, 28; and Mohammed Adamu, 28. They were said to specialise in night-time break-ins targeting houses and shops.
Others arrested for receiving stolen goods included Babagana Yahaya, 28, and Ayuba Mohammed, 27, both from Potiskum. In addition, Mohammed Mohammed, 40, and Adam Abubakar, 17, of Nayi Nawa, were identified as accomplices.
Dungus revealed that the alleged mastermind of the syndicate, simply identified as Hassan, remains at large. Recovered items include three motorcycles, 34 pieces of Ankara fabrics, assorted clothes, bedsheets, a smartphone, and a 100kg bag of rice.

He said the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
