NSCDC nabs drug peddler, burglar in separate operations

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano have arrested two suspected criminals involved in drug dealing and burglary. The arrests were confirmed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, in a statement on Wednesday.

“The NSCDC operatives have recorded another breakthrough in the fight against crime, following the arrest of two suspected criminals in separate operations,” Abdullahi said.

In the first operation, officers apprehended Basiru Ahmed, 42, in the Salanta area of Gwale local government. He was caught “red-handed selling and distributing” what is believed to be Indian hemp (Cannabis sativa).

Acting on credible intelligence, the NSCDC found Ahmed with over 106 parcels of cannabis and has since handed him over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and legal action.

In a separate incident, Muhammad Abbas, 22, was arrested in the Gurungawa area of Kumbotso local government. He is suspected of burgling residential homes and stealing valuable property worth hundreds of thousands of Naira.

According to the statement, Abbas had been on a security watchlist and was apprehended during a “coordinated patrol aimed at curbing theft and other criminal activities in the area.”

The NSCDC stated that both suspects will be charged in court once investigations are complete.

The command urged residents to “remain vigilant and continue to provide timely information that will assist in ridding the community of criminal elements.”
