NOUN VC selection process to be fair and just – Governing Council

The Governing Council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has addressed recent social media reports regarding the selection of the university’s next Vice-Chancellor.

The council noted that a news item circulating on social media alleged that a potential candidate could not be considered for the position because their name was not on a congregation list.

In a statement signed by Ibrahim Sheme, Director of Media and Publicity, the university clarified that the names on the so-called congregation list are “not final and in no way represent the list of members qualified to be Vice-Chancellor.”

The statement added that the candidate’s name in question has since been included in the congregation list.

The university also pointed out that the application deadline for the Vice-Chancellor position has not yet passed, and therefore, “the search for the next VC is not foreclosed; it is a work in progress which continues until the advertised deadline is reached.”

The council assured the university community that the selection process “will be fair and just to all.”

The general public was advised “to ignore any such publications that clearly aim to misinform and stoke the embers of controversy on the selection process for the next Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).”
