Nigeria’s Juju Controversy: Businesswoman vs accused woman
A Nigerian entrepreneur has sparked heated debate online after claiming she caught a woman allegedly leaving suspicious items outside her store objects she believes may have been tied to spiritual or traditional rituals.
The incident was first made public through a TikTok post by the businesswoman, known on the platform as ‘onlyonehairboss’. In the video, she narrated how she had long been hearing reports from her staff about mysterious objects appearing at the shop entrance, believed by some to be “juju” or “jazz” terms used locally to describe charms or items associated with witchcraft.
According to her, she never gave much thought to the matter at first. “All this while, my staff would tell me they saw strange things in front of the shop whenever they opened for business, but I didn’t take it seriously because I don’t believe in such things,” she explained.
However, her skepticism changed abruptly when a neighbour called her early in the morning with startling news. “By 7 a.m., my neighbour near the shop called to say they had caught someone placing something at my entrance,” she recalled.

In the video she shared, the alleged culprit, a middle-aged woman, can be seen being confronted by locals. The woman was reportedly made to pick up the items she had dropped, say prayers in front of the store, and was eventually chased away.
While the exact nature of the items was unclear, the confrontation quickly ignited a flurry of online reactions, with many social media users debating whether the accused woman was guilty, misunderstood, or even innocent.
Several TikTok users flooded the comment section with mixed views:
‘@juhannarose515’ suggested the woman might be innocent, writing: “The woman might be innocent shaaa. She might even be one of those who share the word of God.”

‘The Nameless Order ♊️🦅🥷🏼’ expressed reassurance, saying: “She mentioned JESUS, so you’ve got nothing to worry about. You’re safe in JESUS’ name 🙏🏽🕊️.”
‘Mechelle’ warned about underestimating spiritual practices: “Juju is real, whether you believe it or not. Always pray and meditate.”
‘Ovwigho Victoria 🥰’ offered a different perspective, noting: “After everything, she went into the middle of the road pouring sand on herself backwards. It looked like she was nullifying what she was forced to say so the repercussions wouldn’t affect her.”
The video has since gone viral, attracting thousands of views and triggering conversations about spirituality, superstition, and security in Nigerian business spaces.
Incidents like this tap into a broader cultural debate in Nigeria where traditional beliefs and modern skepticism often clash. For many, the story serves as a reminder to remain vigilant in both physical and spiritual matters.
