NiDCOM rescues three Nigerian teenagers trafficked to Ghana

Three Nigerian teenagers—Divine (17), Favour (18), and Bright (19)—trafficked to Ghana under the false promise of job opportunities have been rescued and repatriated, according to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
The girls, originally from Bayelsa and Ebonyi states, were received on Thursday at NiDCOM’s Lagos office.
They alleged they were lured into sex trafficking by their “aunties” who claimed they would help them secure employment in Ghana, said Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit at NiDCOM.

“Upon their return, the girls were handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for profiling and reintegration as part of ongoing collaborative efforts between NiDCOM and NAPTIP,” he said.
Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, condemned the traffickers and urged the public to expose them. “Human trafficking will persist if traffickers and their agents are not exposed and shamed,” she said.
“It’s a global issue, and until we stop covering up for those responsible, it won’t end.”
She also expressed gratitude to Chief Callistus Elozieuwa, Chairman of the NIDO Ghana Board of Trustees, for consistently supporting rescue efforts. She thanked the Nigerian Embassy in Ghana and appreciated the support of First Lady Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu for assisting with transportation.
NiDCOM disclosed that more than 169 Nigerians have recently been repatriated from Ghana following similar trafficking incidents.
