New Shooting Stars coach, Akin Olowokere, slumps, dies during training

In a shocking and tragic incident, Akin Olowokere, the recently appointed assistant coach for the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), collapsed and died during a training session on Monday morning.

While an official cause of death has not been released, eyewitnesses in Ibadan, the state capital, reported that “he slumped on the pitch during the team’s Monday morning training session and was rushed to the hospital.

He was, however, confirmed dead at the hospital where he was rushed to.” The former Sunshine Stars player and coach was recently unveiled as part of the new coaching staff after the club parted ways with its previous crew.

 

The management of 3SC released a statement expressing their deep sadness: “It is with deep shock and profound sadness that 3SC announces the passing of our beloved Coach, Olowokere, who tragically slumped and passed away on the pitch this morning (Monday).”

The club praised Olowokere as “not only a dedicated and passionate football tactician, but also a mentor, friend, and father figure to the players and many others.”

They extended their heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Nigerian football community.

The Oyo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) also expressed its condolences, stating it was “deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Olowokere of 3SC, who slumped and passed away on the pitch.”
