Netanyahu threatens Qatar after deadly strike

In a forceful address, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Qatar of harbouring terrorists, and warns of “consequences” unless they expel them.

The Israeli leader stated this in a video less than 24 hours after his country struck Hamas leaders in Qatar’s capital, Doha.

The devastating attack, killed six people, including a Qatari security officer, and jolted ongoing ceasefire talks hosted by the Gulf state.

Qatar, long a mediator in the Gaza war, denounced the strike as “state terrorism.” Its officials warned that hostage negotiations with Hamas may now be impossible.

Washington expressed unease, with former US President Donald Trump saying he was “very unhappy” with Israel’s move. Russia went further, condemning it as a “gross violation” of the UN Charter.

Across the region, allies and rivals alike voiced fears that diplomacy has been replaced with escalation.

The move has already deepened mistrust. Hostage families who had pinned hopes on Qatari mediation now fear their loved ones’ release is more unlikely than ever.

Netanyahu closed his speech with a blatant ultimatum: “And I say to Qatar and all nations who harbor terrorists, you either expel them or you bring them to justice. Because if you don’t, we will.”

The message leaves little room for compromise, raising the stakes in a conflict that now threatens to spill far beyond Gaza.
