Netanyahu issues apology to Qatar over Israeli strike on Doha
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued an apology to Qatar after an Israeli airstrike struck Doha earlier this month, killing a Qatari security officer and raising tensions between the two countries.
The apology was delivered during a three-way phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, according to statements from Washington and Doha.
Netanyahu described the strike as a mistake and a breach of Qatar’s sovereignty, while assuring that such an incident would not occur again.

The airstrike reportedly targeted Hamas figures in Doha at a time when Qatar was engaged in mediation efforts between Israel and the group. The action drew strong condemnation from Doha, which accused Israel of undermining its neutrality.
Following the incident, Qatar suspended its role as a mediator in talks related to Gaza, demanding a formal apology before considering any resumption.
Qatar’s foreign ministry confirmed the apology but stressed that it expected respect for its sovereignty in the future. Officials said further engagement would depend on Israel’s adherence to international norms.

The White House noted that Trump had facilitated the call, adding that the discussion also touched on broader issues linked to the conflict in Gaza.
Israel’s admission and apology mark a rare instance of Tel Aviv publicly acknowledging fault in military operations that extend beyond its borders.
Qatar has played a recurring role in mediating between Israel and Hamas, hosting talks and facilitating prisoner exchanges. The strike, however, tested the limits of its involvement.
