NEDC hands over 7 completed projects to Yobe gov’t, inaugurates state office (Pictures)

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has officially handed over seven completed projects to the Yobe State Government and inaugurated its new state office in Damaturu on Monday.
The event was spearheaded by the Minister of Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, during his two-day working visit to the state.
Minister Ahmadu, accompanied by key Chairmen of National Assembly Committees overseeing the NEDC and the commission’s top management, personally commissioned the projects across Yobe’s three senatorial zones.
The visit also included inspections of various ongoing NEDC projects throughout the state.
Mr. Mohammed Goni Alkali, Managing Director of the NEDC, detailed the projects formally transferred to the Yobe State Government.
He stated that a newly constructed and inaugurated office complex in Damaturu signifies a strengthened permanent presence for the commission in Yobe while the state-of-the-art auditorium facility at the Yobe State University aimed at enhancing learning infrastructure at the state university.
According to Alkali, numerous units of solar street lights have been installed across various communities in Yobe State to improve access to water and enhance public safety and security at night.
Furthermore, ICT centres, well equipped with facilities, have been made available to boost digital literacy and access to information technology and the construction of three mega schools located in Buni-Yadi, Potiskum and Gashua LGAs, respectively.
He said Minister Ahmadu’s presence, alongside National Assembly figures and NEDC leadership, underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to the region under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

In his remarks during a courtesy visit to Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, represented by the secretary to the state Government, Baba Malam Wali, regional development minister, Ahmadu announced a comprehensive 7-point intervention plan for the Northeast.
He explained that this includes enhanced stabilisation and peacebuilding, renovating dilapidated schools, and training youth in solar panel fabrication across all six Northeastern states.
“Others are building 50-bed women/children’s hospitals per senatorial zone (focus: VVF, cleft, malnutrition), upgrading drug storage, and establishing MRI/CT scan centres.
Others are major food security project targeting 5,000 hectares per state (rice, wheat) via mechanisation and processing.
“Also the scaling up of road/bridge by NEDC (supported by new e-vehicles/tricycles) and rolling out state-based training programmes.
The minister reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to the peace and development of the North-East under the “Renewed Hope Agenda”.
The minister inspected some of NEDC’s projects in the state, like the female hostels at the Yobe State University, the 450-seat capacity multi-purpose hall at the Unity Girls College Damaturu, ongoing construction of 250 housing units in Damaturu and building material at the NEDC’s warehouse in Damaturu among others.
