NCS reaffirms commitment to interagency amid incident at MMAC NAHCO Shed

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has addressed a recent incident at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Cargo (MMAC) NAHCO Shed, involving a disagreement with Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) officials over equipment movement and seating arrangements.

The incident, which occurred on March 6, 2025, highlighted a miscommunication that temporarily disrupted operations.

In a statement, the NCS emphasized its dedication to inter-agency collaboration and compliance with the World Customs Organisation’s (WCO) Safe Framework of Standards. This framework advocates strong partnerships between Customs, other government agencies, and businesses to ensure trade facilitation, regulatory compliance, and national economic growth.

The NCS reaffirmed that the NAHCO and SAHCO Import and Export Warehouses, as licensed Customs Bonded Warehouses, operate in strict accordance with Section 122 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.

NCS maintains that the facilities remain under its control as mandated by Section 127 of the Act.

According to the statement,Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, reiterated the Service’s commitment to fostering inter-agency cooperation and maintaining smooth operations within Customs-controlled areas.

The NCS assured stakeholders that efforts are underway to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

In its closing remarks, the NCS urged all parties to prioritize mutual respect, adherence to due process, and a cooperative spirit to sustain economic growth and ensure seamless cargo operations.

The statement, issued by Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, reaffirms the NCS’s mandate to facilitate trade, enforce regulations, and safeguard national security.
