Martinelli’s late equaliser secures draw for Arsenal vs. Man City

Gabriel Martinelli’s stoppage-time lob earned Arsenal a dramatic 1-1 draw at home against Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday. The late goal cancelled out an early strike from Erling Haaland.

City took the lead in the 9th minute. A swift counter-attack saw Tijjani Reijnders feed Haaland, who coolly finished past David Raya.

At half-time Mikel Arteta made substitutions for Arsenal, bringing on Eberechi Eze, among others, which shifted momentum in their favour.

City, meanwhile, adopted a defensive setup, especially deep in their half, aiming to preserve the lead.

Despite growing pressure from Arsenal, City held on through much of the second half, with players like Rodri, Donnarumma, and Ruben Dias playing key defensive roles.

In injury time, Arsenal finally broke through. Eze played a long ball over the City back line; Martinelli collected it and lobbed the ball over the advancing Donnarumma to draw level.

For City, the draw felt like a missed opportunity. Their defensive resilience had nearly secured three points, despite the result, both coaches later praised their team’s display.

Arsenal now have 10 points from five matches. The point keeps them close in the title race, though still behind league leaders Liverpool. City, on seven points, remain some distance off the pace.
