The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the attack on Yelewata town in Guma Local Government Area, stating that suspected bandits invaded the community in the early hours of Saturday.

In a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Edet Udeme, the command disclosed that tactical teams deployed to the area responded swiftly and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.

“Some of the attackers were neutralized in the process,” the PPRO said, adding, “But it is with great sadness that we report that some individuals also lost their lives and others sustained injuries during the incident.”
