Man shot, killed while sleeping in Church with his family

A 45-year-old man, Udeme Sunday Uko, was shot dead early Monday morning while sleeping with his wife and children inside a church in Ikot Oku Usung village, Akwa Ibom State.
The victim’s wife, Mfon Udeme Sunday, discovered the incident and immediately alerted the local youth chairman, who then reported it to the police.
DSP Timfon John, spokesperson for the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday. A police team was sent to the scene and “recovered a locally made pistol and an expended cartridge, which were taken in as evidence.”

According to the police, Uko was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The incident, which happened around 12:10 a.m., is being investigated as either a targeted attack or a possible suicide. The police emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages.
The deceased’s body has been moved to a local morgue for an autopsy. The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has ordered a swift and thorough investigation to determine the cause of death and bring any culprits to justice.

The police have assured the public that all necessary resources are being used for a full and transparent investigation and that updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
