Man sentenced to death by hanging for killing sex worker
An Ogun State High Court in Abeokuta sentenced 22-year-old Jamiu Malomo to death by hanging on Wednesday for the murder of a sex worker, Asisat Akande, whom he fatally stabbed.
Malomo was convicted on a single charge of murder. He had pleaded not guilty to the charge during the trial. The crime was committed when Malomo was 18 years old.
While delivering the judgment, Justice O. Ogunfowora stated that the prosecution had proven its case against Malomo beyond a reasonable doubt. As a result, Ogunfowora found him guilty of the charged offense.
“As it was preferred against you, you are thus convicted of killing Asisat Akande. Until you die, you will be hanged by the neck. “May God grant you mercy,” the judge said.
A.M. Adebayo, the State Prosecuting Attorney, had previously stated that the offender had committed the crime on July 18, 2021, at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the Ori-Apata neighborhood of Oke-Aregba in Abeokuta.
According to Adebayo, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecution, the prisoner selected the deceased sex worker Akande from the 3AD bar in the Panseke neighborhood and brought her to his home for intercourse.
“She demanded ₦10,000, as agreed upon, after having sexual knowledge of the deceased, but he refused to give her the full amount, claiming to have ₦8,000.”
After a fight broke out between him and the dead, the prisoner pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed her in the neck. “The deceased died instantly as a result of the stab,” he stated.
He mentioned that the condemned man was taken into custody by police officers at the 3AD club in Panseke when he intended to choose another girl for sex.
However, he stated that the offense was criminal under section 319 of the Criminal Code, laws of Ogun 2006, and violated section 316.
