Story by Tauheed YAKUB, Abuja

The serene grounds of Nile University, Abuja, witnessed a joyful blend of academia and celebration on Saturday, as family, friends, and well-wishers gathered for the wedding fatiha of Ummul Khulthum Abdullahi Gimba and Muhammad Shuaibu Gulani Jnr.

The bride, Ummul Khulthum is the lovely daughter of Professor Abdullahi S.B. Gimba, a renowned scholar and Head of the Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering at Nile University with her groom, Muhammad Gulani Jnr., a staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria Headquarters, Abuja, tied the knot in a beautiful and memorable wedding ceremony that was a perfect fusion of love, unity and culture.

Their special day started on a heartwarming note with a wedding fatiha held at 11:30 a.m. at the Central Mosque on the university campus, drawing guests from various walks of life.

Interestingly, the day also coincided with Nile University’s student registration exercise, resulting in large numbers of students gathered outside, adding to the vibrancy of the campus atmosphere.

The Islamic marriage rites were officiated by Malam Nasir, a young and articulate Muslim scholar who commenced the proceedings with a brief opening prayer and asked the crowd to settle for the nuptial rites.

Representatives of both the bride and groom were invited to introduce themselves formally per Islamic practices. The scholar requested and verified the couple’s genotype reports, confirming their compatibility and setting a health-conscious tone for the ceremony.

Malam Nasir then delivered a short sermon on the sanctity of marriage in Islam and emphasised the importance of mutual respect and responsibility between spouses. The bride price, announced as ₦500,000, was promptly handed over to the bride. The congregation was asked to witness the transaction, to which they responded affirmatively, marking the completion of the marital contract.

The entire fatiha lasted approximately 30 minutes. Immediately after, guests moved to the reception venue, where they were treated to a variety of traditional and continental delicacies in a warm and celebratory atmosphere.

The event was a perfect reflection of faith, culture, and academia, a day when the university community not only hosted a union of two families but also witnessed the personal milestone of one of its distinguished faculty members.

As Muhammad and Ummul Khulthum embark on their journey of life together, we pray their union is filled with joy and everlasting happiness.
