KACRAN kicks off house-to-house voter registration campaign for herders
The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has initiated a nationwide, house-to-house voter registration campaign to ensure pastoralists are not left out of the democratic process.
This sensitisation drive, which kicked off on Thursday, August 7, 2025, in the Jakusko Local Government Area of Yobe State, is a direct response to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
INEC’s CVR process began with online registration on August 18, and in-person registration will follow starting August 25. The exercise is scheduled to run for a full year, concluding on August 30, 2026.
Registration will be available at 811 centers nationwide, including 774 Local Government offices, 37 State offices, and the Federal Capital Territory office. The centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding public holidays.
KACRAN recognises that its members face unique challenges in participating in this process due to their nomadic lifestyle and lack of access to technology.

The association’s campaign aims to empower herders by educating them on how to:
* Register children who have turned 18.
* Get a replacement for lost voter cards or update their information after migrating.
* Prepare to vote or run for office in the 2027 general elections.
KACRAN’s president, Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello, emphasised the importance of this initiative, stating, “We don’t want millions of our pastoralists to be disenfranchised due to the nature of their occupation or a lack of sensitisation. Our members, who are often not computer literate and live in areas with limited electricity and internet access, need specific guidance to navigate this process.”
The association views this registration exercise as an essential component of nation-building, ensuring that the pastoral community is not overlooked. KACRAN commended INEC for its inclusivity, noting that even inmates are being registered, and believes that herders, who are equally deserving of their constitutional rights, should also be fully included.
To ensure the campaign’s success, KACRAN is calling on all levels of government, local, state, and federal, to follow the lead of the Yobe State government and the Executive Chairman of the Yakusko Local Government by providing support and cooperation.
In closing, KACRAN urges all governments and Nigerians to back INEC’s mission to register eligible voters, update voter information, and register new political parties, giving citizens more opportunities to participate in the democratic process.
